WOW… where did August go??!!
With my sewing machines shoved into the center of the room and covered in plastic for most of August while we painted my sewing room/office, I didn’t get much chance to sew.
Now I’m playing catch up!
Kris over at Kris Loves Fabric was August’s designer for the In Our Garden BOM.
Sunday afternoon found me busy cutting and sewing her pieced block called Churny Flower.
I searched through my fabric dresser for just the right scrap of fabric for the flower’s center. I love how fast Kris’s version of the traditional Churn Dash block came together.
After not doing any machine sewing for a month it was a quick, satisfying finish!
I fused her Trowel Time applique block before we packed up the sewing room and I’ve been working away a bit at a time to do the blanket stitching by hand.
I had it all done… or so I thought… until I decided it just needed a few extra touches.
First, I gave birdie a wing. He looks so much happier now!
I’d added the black for the garden soil when I first made the block but somehow all that soil with nothing growing in it this time of year, just didn’t look right… so late Monday night, I added some carrots for our little bird to be digging up. At the time, I thought, oh this won’t take long to add. Ha!
Fusing the carrots took maybe a half hour to get the size and shapes right. Those green carrot tops are stitched and filled in with backstitch. They took me four hours to stitch!
I have to admit though that I’m thrilled with how it turned out.
If you haven’t had a chance to make August’s blocks, head on over to Kris’s blog.
Here they are again side by side:
And since today is the 1st of September, you’ll find Blocks 15 & 16 waiting for you over at Life in the Scrapatch.
Pat Roe, this month’s designer, has created Granny Garden Pieced Block and Pumpkin Time Applique Block along with a super cute bonus block called Farm Girl Scarecrow.
I can’t wait to make them!

September 5, 2016 7:29 amThose blocks are so different but I love them both. The fussy cut for the churn-dash is wonderful. The additions that you made to Trowel Time are adorable. You are quite creative with those carrots.

September 2, 2016 6:05 pmSo worth the extra time. I love your attention to detail on the trowel block. The carrot tops look great and I like how you even have one carrot being dug up. Nicely done. This was a block that had a lot of possibilities for personalization.
