Before I show you my one and only finish for the week (it’s a pretty one!), I would like to welcome all the new readers who have subscribed to Super Mom – No Cape over the past couple of weeks.
Many of you have arrived here after seeing the link to my Prairie Point Star Tutorial on one of a variety of different craft and sewing/quilting sites. I’m so pleased that you liked what you saw enough to want to receive notification each time I post!
And there are lots of fun posts coming up over the next weeks and months.
The first week in December, I’ll be taking part of the Virtual Christmas Cookie Exchange Blog Hop being organized by Carol over at Just Let Me Quilt. That will run December 1st through the 4th, with my day scheduled for the 4th.
Sew Mama Sew’s always popular biannual Giveaway Day is December 9th. I have something really cute planned for that.
I also have several more tutorials in various stages of being photographed and written. Some I’ll be sharing in December and others you’ll see in the new year.
Which brings me to my one and only very pretty finish.
Every year, I like to put out Christmas tissue boxes in the week before Christmas. Here are last year’s empty boxes that have been waiting for me to turn into something. They were just too cute to throw away!
These are usually quite a bit more expensive than regular tissues but I try to buy them on sale in January and store them away until the holidays. Unfortunately last January, I wasn’t able to find any on clearance.
Paying full price for them seemed wasteful considering that I have two drawers full of Christmas fabric in my fabric dresser. So I decided to make covers for the plain tissue boxes.
I made this one last night after I got home from the monthly meeting of the London Writers Society. From drafting the pattern to the finished cover took under two hours.
But you won’t have to do all that figuring if you want to make some for yourself because this coming week I’m going to be working on a tutorial for how to make them.
In addition to adding something pretty to your Christmas decor, I think they would make great teacher or neighbor gifts.
They could also be made in a variety of different fabrics to be used year round.
Fully lined with no raw edges inside, they’re fat quarter friendly with large enough scraps to still be useful. Several matching covers could be made from 1 yard of fabric (still working out how many per yard.)
Look for the tutorial the second week of December.
I hope that now that you’ve found me that you’ll stay for a while. And please don’t be shy. I love comments! Life gets busy and I get behind answering them, but I do read and appreciate every single one.
To those of you who are long time readers, I also want to thank you for all the support and encouragement you always give me. You brighten my days and make all the work writing posts and tutorials so very worthwhile.

November 28, 2015 6:53 pmYay! I’m looking forward to the tutorial because I would LOVE to have several covers for various times of the year. So much prettier than plain ol’ manufacturers boxes. Of course, knowing me, I’d be tempted to crazy quilt them!

November 28, 2015 7:10 amIt’s beautiful. I’ve not seen that gorgeous fabric at any of my local shops. A co-worker used to buy tissue boxes and wrap them in holiday paper for all of us. I can’t wait to see your tutorial as I’m wondering if the covering is reusable. I think you’d have to use elastic and I don’t see any gathers. I’ll try to be patient… All kidding aside, I do appreciate you sharing the tutorial.

November 27, 2015 9:27 pmOooh, I already shared it with hundreds of my closest friends. =) I can hardly wait for that tutorial. That would be a terrific gift for those friends you want to make something, but not something big and expensive!

November 27, 2015 9:25 pmI’ve never seen tissue boxes in the UK like the ones you showed above – they are too pretty to just throw away. I only buy tissues in square boxes so hopefully I can adapt your pattern to fit them. I look forward to your December tutorials 🙂

November 27, 2015 5:40 pmAbsolutely great idea. And here I sit with a box of Kleenex (caught a cold) and I am sure I have extra Christmas fabric in my sewing room. I definitely need to do this. Thanks for sharing and inspiring.
