I’m still busy sewing Christmas gifts and working on my novel. Just as with sewing, some days I make more progress on the novel than on others, but the words are adding up and I’ve been able to fill in sections of Chapters 11, 12 and 13 that needed to be freshed out so that the story would flow smoothly from one scene to the next.
On the sewing front… I have all the gifts for our oldest daughter and her partner finished. They are wrapped and now I just need to find the right sized box so that I can get them mailed off to Shanghai so that they arrived in time for Christmas. (I did photograph them before I wrapped them so that I can show you what I made them after Christmas.)
I’ve also finished the stocking and six small handmade gifts for my partner in the Santa Sack Swap coordinated by Cheryl over at Gone Stitchin’
Now of course, I can’t show you any of those gifts, but I do have a finish to share that I’m really pleased with. Back in this post I showed you the Gift Wrap Pillow Cover Fronts that I had pieced using a free pattern from Venus De Hilo.
Updated to add: Unfortunately, the pattern is no longer available. If I can track down a link where you can purchase it, I’ll add it to this post.
I finished quilting them on the weekend and then this week, made zippered backs and got them sewn into pillow covers.
If you recall, when I posted the photos of the pieced tops, I was trying to decide whether to make the four pieced tops into two pillows or four. I decided to go with four.
And I’m so glad that I did. Aside from little imperfections that Dave says only I can see, I’m really pleased with how they turned out.
I still think the red floral with the white bow looks more Christmasy but now that they are quilted, the echo quilting that I did shows up much better on the white with the red floral bow.
You can still see the echo quilting on the red shown below, but it’s definite more pronounced on the white.
I planned to keep one of each and then the other two will be gifted individually. I will have to purchase the 12″X16″ pillow forms to go in them.
How are you coming along with your Christmas crafting? Two months today is Christmas morning… yes… it’s only 60 days to Christmas!!
