Doll Cradle Transformation

On last week’s post Aprons and Dolly Diapers, Kathie from Chico, CA left me a lovely comment. Part of her comment said: “You inspired me to sew a doll cradle mattress, blanket/quilt, and bed skirt as a gift for my niece’s daughters.”

I wrote to Kathie thanking her and telling her that she had made my day.  Attached to her reply to that e-mail was a photo of the transformation she had made to an old wooden doll cradle. I asked and Kathie has given me permission to share that photo with all of you.

Quoted from Kathie’s e-mail:

“After seeing your tutorial, I jumped into my project, knowing how simple it really is to achieve something wonderful that will be loved.

As you can see, the cradle is also plain, brown wood and I wanted to dress it up a bit.  Not having the time to paint it white with lead-free paint, I used fabric instead. Of course!  The bed liner is sewn of pink fabric and wraps around to the bottom, secured with velcro strips underneath.  The eyelet was sewn at both sides, across the top only, so it will hang like a bedskirt.”

Now isn’t that one of the sweetest doll cradles you’ve ever seen.  I love the eyelet bedskirt.  It reminds me of the skirt on the bassinette we had for our oldest daughter.

BTW, the tutorial Kathie is referring to can be found in my post How to Make Bedding for a Doll Cradle .

You can see more pictures of that cradle in: What to Do With an Old Doll Cradle.

Thank you, Kathie for sharing your photo with me and with my readers!

You are all most welcome! I hope this project provides inspiration for more dolly cradle bedding. As Sandra (above)said, she “loved all the goodies for them.” Have fun giving the little girls in your life some wonderful memories with your time and talents. Thank you, Sue, for your inspiration for easy sewing!

Oh my – I can’t even TELL you how much I would have loved something like that when I was a little girl – I love love LOVED my dollies, and loved all the goodies for them – clothing and a carriage and those little plastic bottles that look like they’re being emptied when they’re tilted … 🙂 I remember mom giving me real baby clothes for the dolls – those precious little smocked flannel nightdresses that tied @ the neck with binding, little organza-y dresses, rubber pants (so I’m guessing I had real diapers too, lol) – aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah the memories!
