I’m excited to show you one of the Christmas projects I’m working on as it’s turning out even prettier than I had pictured in my mind.
I managed to get a bunch of projects all cut out while we were in St. Catherines, ON for a contract that Dave was working on. Now that we’re back at our son’s place until the contract resumes Oct 15th, I’ve working on getting them sewed together.
The pattern calls for 2 fat quarters and you end up with two contrasting pillow tops or one pillow with contrasting front and back.
I photographed the pillow top with the red print bow and white background, on a dark grey sofa cushion so that it would show up better. The two pillow tops look like they are different sizes but they are both the same size.
I had 1/2 yard of the red print fabric and I always have several yards of Kona Snow on hand so after I cut out the first set, I cut an addition set as well. It took me one entire afternoon to sew all four pillow tops together. Now they need to be quilted and I need to decide… do I want to make two pillows or four!
I’m leaning towards making four pillows with solid colours for the back of the pillows. Dave thinks the red bow and white background looks more Christmasy while I prefer the white bow with the red background. If I make four pillows I can keep one of each and then have two more for gifting.
Update: I did decide to make 4 pillow covers. You can see them in my Gift Wrap Pillow Covers post.
Note: The Gift Wrap Pillow pattern is available for purchase from Venus De Hilo’s Blueprint shop. The pattern includes directions for several different sizes of pillows.

Disclaimer: All husbands will disagree with this statement.

October 2, 2013 10:20 amThese are so pretty! I usually take Christmas fabric and wrap my regular sofa pillows, with a tied bow on the back, to add some cheer during the holidays. I am working on a quilt to surprise my husband, can’t wait to share it. I hope you enjoy your visit with your son! ~Vickie
