Aprons and Dolly Diapers

This week, I’ve been busy sewing more play things for our oldest daughter’s classroom.

First up were these two reversible aprons with adjustable ties.

I used a few different aprons as inspiration.  I got the idea for the adjustable ties from here.  Somewhat Simple inspired me to use up some more of the fat quarters I’ve been collecting. And the idea to make them reversible came from this Moda Bake shop tutorial here.

I’ll be posting my own tutorial some time in the next few days.  My tutorial for a Reversible Child’s Apron with Adjustable Ties uses three fat quarters. Two for the apron and one for the ties.

After I finished the aprons, I turned my attention to making dolly diapers.

I printed off the pattern from Skip to my Lou.

They are super easy to make. Simply cut out two diapers using the pattern. Place right sides together.  Sew all the way around using a ¼” seam allowance. Leave an opening for turning. Trim corners, clip curves (very important.) Turn right side out and sew opening closed. Topstitch.

Yesterday afternoon, I sewed four.

For these, I used a white tea towel for the inside and cotton for the outside. I just need to pick up some Velcro so I can finish them.

I have plans to make a few more but those I’ll be making out of some flannel leftover from another project.

I did get one small project finished for myself. I needed something to keep pencils, erasers and pens in so I made myself this pencil case.

Next on the list of things to make are more of those dolly diapers and some dolly bibs.

And then I need to sew some new laundry bags. The ones we’ve been using on this extended move of ours are almost worn out and getting beyond being repairable.
