I hope everyone in Canada had a wonderful Canada Day. I know that our family sure did.
Last week, our middle daughter noticed that Groupon had a half price special running for two hour tours on the Tall Ship Kajama and e-mailed me the info. After talking it over, we decided to buy four tickets and then book ourselves on one of the July 1st tours.
So yesterday around noon, we headed down to the Toronto Harbour Front.
On the way from the parking garage to the pier, Dave snapped the obligatory photo of the CN Tower.
The directions said the ship would be leaving from the pier located behind the Power Plant. And sure enough, on the pier right behind the Power Plant we found this sign. Of course, we walked by the sign a couple of times before noticing it.
When boarding was complete we headed out. And once we were well clear of the pier and out in the harbour, they raised the sails.
For lunch, we ordered these delicious sandwiches with salad and were pleasantly surprized at how reasonably priced they were.
Before we knew it, we’d turned and headed back to the pier.
When the ship was coming in, it was running on engine power and we didn’t get to see what the ship looked like under sail. So after disembarking, we waited for the next tour to head out.
If you are looking for a fun adventure to take your family on this summer and are in or traveling to the GTA, I would definitely recommend booking a tour on Kajama. In fact, I’m thinking it would be really fun to book another Kajama boat tour later this summer when our oldest is back in Canada on a short break from teaching in China.
Our middle daughter had other plans for the evening of Canada Day so Dave, myself and our son attended the evening activities and fireworks at Lakeview Park in Oshawa. (No photos as we had decided to leave the camera safely locked in the trunk of the car.)
We arrived at the park about 6 pm to claim a spot on the beach by spreading out an old blanket. While waiting for the sun to set and the fireworks to start, we watched the little ones play in the sand. Our son and I took periodic trips to the concession area (leaving Dave with the blanket to save our spot.) Throughout the evening, we feasted on cotton candy, kielbasa on buns and popcorn.
By about 9:30 my butt was getting sore from sitting on the hard ground (we moved up off the beach to get away from the ants) and I was beginning to wonder if the long wait was worth it. But I needn’t have worried… the fireworks were spectacular.
It was the perfect end to a wonderful day spent with two of our three children.
