Create a special gift for Mom by making her this pretty coin purse embroidered with the words Mom is Just Another Word for Love.
It will touch her heart whether you give to her for Mother’s Day, her birthday, Christmas, Valentine’s Day or as a surprise “just because” gift.
Coin purses are such handy little things to have. I’ve made several over the years and use them for all kinds of things.
When we go on vacation, I take one to keep quarters in for doing laundry. Though if we’re traveling in Canada, it’s loonies and twoonies.
At home, I have one for all our Canadian change and another one for American coins.
And as you’ll see when you click through to my Coin Purse Tutorial, I even add needle books and thread to turn them into small sewing kits.
How to Use “Mom is Just Another Word for Love” Embroidery Pattern to Make a Small Coin Purse
- 8″ X 18″ piece of fabric for the outside of the coin purse
- 8″ X 18″ fabric for the lining
- Embroidery floss
- Sew-in metal coin purse frame
- #10 white seed beads
Begin by printing off the embroidery pattern (scroll down for the link.)
Then go to my Coin Purse Tutorial and print off the pattern for the coin purse.
Trace the embroidery patterns onto your choice of fabric. I chose a pretty light blue with white polka dots.
In the photo, above I’m using a Huion A3 Light Box as my light source for tracing but you can also tape the pattern and fabric to a window as well. That’s what I did for years until we purchased the Huion.
If you do a lot of pattern tracing… buy one. Your arms will thank you! 🙂
Stitch the traced patterns using floss that will compliment the fabric you’ve chosen.
If you’d like to use the same floss colors as I did, they’re listed below.
Please note: Two strands of floss are used throughout.
Embroider the word “MOM”, using DMC 4180 Rose Petals Color Variations floss.
The lazy daisy flowers are all done in DMC 336 Light Grape while the stems are backstitched in DMC 471 Ultra LIght Avocado Green. The leaves use the same green worked in a lazy daisy stitch with a straight stitch through the middle to fill them in.
DMC 3716 Very Light Dusty Rose is used to stitch “is just another word for” and the lazy daisies flowers.
Use Rose Petals Color Variations floss for the word “LOVE.”
Because of the curve of the coin purse, it’s difficult to make out the words so here it is from a slightly different angle.
Once you have the front and back pattern embroidered, center the outer coin purse pattern piece over them, pin and cut out.
Continue to follow the tutorial to complete your coin purse.
The #10 white seed beads need to be added after the coin purse is completed.
The coin purse is lined with this pretty pink fabric with darker pink hearts.
What Mom wouldn’t love to receive such a pretty gift… handmade with love!
Add a small bouquet of flowers and some foil wrapped chocolates to make her day extra special.

Several years ago, when our kids were all in college and didn’t have extra money to buy gifts for me for Mother’s Day, one of them said they felt so bad. So starting right then, I asked our children that instead of buying me gifts for Mother’s Day that they do an act of service for someone else. They don’t even need to tell me what act of service they’ve done, just that they do that in place of stressing over gifts.
