Wee Scholar Felt Dolls With Basic Wardrobe & Halloween Costumes – Pattern Releases

If you’re looking for a quick and oh so fun gift to make for the little ones in your life, then I’ve got the perfect project for you!

After six years of living and teaching pre-school and elementary school in China, our oldest daughter, Krystal and her partner, Robert decided it was time to move back to Canada. Over those six years, she created several teaching aids and toys for them to use in their classrooms.

Over the past several weeks, she’s been busy turning one of those teaching aids into a pattern. And I can’t wait to share it with you!

Introducing Wee Scholar Felt Dolls…

Aren’t they adorable!!

This boy and girl are playing a game of kick the ball. I love the green and purple hair!

Krystal and I had sooo much fun when we got together to do a photo shoot for them.

The pattern includes one felt doll pattern that can be made in any skin color you choose.

It also includes the pattern pieces for a basic wardrobe that can be embellished with embroidery or fabric paint.

As well as a variety of different hair styles to choose from:

For this photo, the basic dolls have been dressed as girls in their pjs, ready for bed.

What I love about the pattern is how easy it it to personalize the dolls to the child they are being made for. The clothes can be made as plain or as fancy as you want.

You could make one or two dolls for that special little one in your life or a whole set of dolls for a group of children to play with, such as in a school setting.

I love them so much that I just had to make two dolls to add to the toy box that I keep for when we have little visitors.

In the pattern, she provides two different ways to stabilize the doll’s body.

I chose to stabilize mine with Peltex 71F One-sided Fusible Ultra Firm Stabilizer.

But if Peltex isn’t available in your area, Krystal also provides instructions for using two layers of Pellon 809 Fusible Interfacing.

The face can either be embroidered or painted using fabric paints.

I chose to embroider mine.

I had way more fun than any peri-menopausal woman should have had making clothes for them from the patterns for the basic wardrobe that are included with the pattern.

Here are my versions of the Wee Scholar Felt Dolls:

To make the top and shorts, I traced each pattern piece onto Thermoweb Heat’n Bond Fusible Adhesive, fused the pieces to the wrong side of the cotton fabric and cut them out.

Next, I peeled the paper backing off, fused the top and shorts to white felt and cut them out following the edge of the fabric.

I can see a lot more clothes being made as it’s not only super fun to pick out fabrics to use, but it’s also a great way to use up small fabric scraps!
