Spooky Eyeballs Trick or Treat Bag

Wait until you see the Spooky Eyeballs Trick or Treat Bag I designed as part of Quilting Mod”s Sewing Challenge.

Do you ever take part in sewing challenges? Or how about sewing and quilting swaps?

Some of my most fun and creative ideas are the result of accepting sewing challenges or signing up for swaps.

Back in July 2016, Afton over at Quilting Mod issued a challenge. She would send 12 fat eighths of Art Gallery Fabrics Round Elements to the first few people who commented on her post.

In return, those accepting the challenge were to create a finished work that included at least some of the fabric and write a post about it between Oct. 1st and 7th when she would have a link up for everyone to show off the items they’d made.

I love a good challenge, don’t you?

Are you ready to see what I created?

First, let me show you a photo of the fabrics I received:

You can read about the fun extras she sent along with the fabrics in my post Quilting Mod Challenge Accepted. As you can see, I had lots of pretty fabrics to inspire me.

The project I’m sharing today started with the fabric in the collection called Serene Tide.

What do see when you look at that fabric?

White circles on a dark blue background, right? (It may look black in the photo above.)

That’s what I saw at first too, but the longer I looked at the fabric, the more something spooky began to emerge!

Making what I was imagining come to life would mean a trip to the dollar store here in our little town but first I’d need to sew up a simple tote bag.

A quick rummage through my fabric dresser turned up two large scraps of dark blue with white pin dots.

This is the front of the tote:

I used the reverse print called Pebble Shadows for the back of the tote.

I love the way it turned out!

In fact, if I hadn’t already decided that those circles needed something extra, it would be a lovely library book tote or another take-a-long project bag.

Those dollar store craft items were of course, Googly Eyes (<affiliate link)! Not all dollar stores have them, but Amazon does!

I have to say that I was smiling the whole time I was gluing those eyes in place! 🙂
