Drawstring Easter Gift Bags

As adults, our children are way past the age of Easter baskets and egg hunts but I do still like to give them a little something on the occasions when we’re together for Easter.  So yesterday afternoon I searched through my fabric dresser and found a pretty fat quarter with Easter eggs on it and a coordinating fat quarter.  I used my How to Make Two Drawstring Bags from Two FQs tutorial and after a couple of hours of fun at the sewing machine, I had two gift bags ready for Sunday morning.

For those who like to know these things… the Easter fat quarter I used was Springtime Easter Eggs by Studio 8 for Quilting Treasures.  The robin’s egg blue fabric is Flurry by Kate Spain for Moda.

The fabric for the strings is one I’ve used to bind this quilt and this one.  It’s Calypso by RoGregg for Paintbrush Studio (Patt #120-425) and is a great fabric to have in your stash because the rainbow of dots goes well with all sorts of prints and solids.

When I was getting ready to take photos it occurred to me that these gifts bags could also be used as Easter baskets.   Fold the tops down, stuff the bottom with straw and they’ll stand up, ready to be filled by the Easter bunny.

Tomorrow I hope to have someone special to share with you who might be the perfect addition to a little one’s Easter basket this year.  She doesn’t take long to make and can even be sewn completely by hand if you don’t have a sewing machine.
