Several small accomplishments can sometimes feel as good a single big one. And that’s the way I’m feeling about the finishes I’m sharing today.
As I mentioned in Wednesday’s post, I’d had an orphaned arrow block sitting on the end of my sewing machine cabinet since I made my Love Struck Purse. It is now a pincushion with a small pocket just the right size to hold a thimble.
The patchwork needlebook is also finished.
For the topstitching, I used a variegated machine quilting thread on the outside and white in the bobbin to match the white wool felt that I used for the inside of the needlebook. I really like the subtle changes in color in the topstitching.
After sewing the bias tape binding to my vintage Thanksgiving apron, I had three strips of varying lengths leftover cluttering up my cutting table. It only took a few minutes to join those into a single strip, give them a good pressing and wind them around a piece of cardboard ready for another project.
When I go for my morning walks, I carry my phone, tissues and the spare house key in a bag at my waist. I always worry that one of these times when I reach in to answer the phone, the key will fall out and I won’t notice until I get home and find myself locked out of the house. So yesterday afternoon, I made this fun key chain to attach to the house key.
I can also use it as a wristlet if I’m just popping down the block to check for mail.
As well, yesterday afternoon, I completed this embroidered gift tag.
This was another quick and simple finish. It was also one of the small projects included in my 2015 Finish Along Q3 Goals, so it can now be checked off the list.
And last but not least, last night after reading this post over at Thread Riding Hood, I pulled some fabrics from my stash and made this pillowcase to donate to Ryan’s Case for Smiles.
I’ve got fabric picked out for one more pillowcase and once I’ve got that one done, I’ll make contact with our local coordinator to get them dropped off.
Just this week, a close family member went in for their one year check up and we are celebrating that all the preliminary tests have come back clear. These pillowcases will be my Act of Gratitude.
None of these projects took more than an hour and in some cases less than that but they’ve allowed me to be able to enjoy sewing in short bursts, taking breaks when I need them, without over-taxing the arm that is still healing.
Wishing you all a wonderful, heart-centered weekend with much Aloha!

September 25, 2015 10:03 pmWhat a nice lot of little finishes. I really love the pillowcase fabrics, and your purpose for doing it. A great way to celebrate! The wristlet for your key is wonderful. I have a blue plastic spiral thing that mine are on, and when I go anywhere, I just pop it over my wrist. No more leaving the keys in strange places! I got the idea and the plastic thing from my best friend, and don’t know where I’ll get another, so this one better last a long time! Love the gift tag!
