This quilt top is my oldest unfinished quilt and will be my July goal for A Lovely Year of Finishes (ALYofF.)
I started it back in February 2011 and finished it in March 2011. You can read my progress posts here, here, here and here.
Here are a couple more views taken from different angles:
At the time I finished it, I didn’t have the confidence to even attempt to quilt something that large. It measures 68 inches by 96 inches. It was folded up and put away (and then after that spent three years in storage until our big move in November 2014.)
From the distance needed to get the whole quilt in the photos, it’s difficult to see the fabrics I used so here is a close-up of one of the blocks:
That floral print was the inspiration for the quilt and for choosing the Disappearing Nine Patch method to construct the blocks. I wanted a block that would showcase that beautiful fabric which reminds me so much of Hawaii.
On a recent trip to Port Huron, MI, I stopped into Joann’s with a 60% off one item coupon and was lucky enough to find a great fabric for the backing.
I would love to have this quilt finished before July 23rd so that I can show it off to our oldest daughter when she and her partner are here visiting from China.
To all my Canadian readers:
Happy Canada Day!

July 3, 2015 7:32 pmScore on the 60% off at JoAnn’s! Don’t you love having access to the US for fabric acquisition purposes? wink. That sure is a fit-for-Hawaii quilt! I thought oooh, warm! when I saw it; I love that text fabric. Need to try this Disappearing Nine-Patch one of these days. (and the list gets longer again)

July 1, 2015 4:53 pmHow lovely that you re-discovered your quilt top and have found the perfect backing for it! Best of luck finishing it… Have a great visit with your daughter!
On another note, your emails are reaching my inbox titled from “admin”. I really wish you’d retitle them to be from Supermom or Supermom_NoCape! My reason for this request is that “admin” is a common spammer designation!!! I’ve been receiving lots of junk mail lately and my knee-jerk reaction is to delete/block all “admin” messages. I think other folks might be experiencing this issue too. Thanks for listening.

July 1, 2015 11:22 amOnce you take that first stitch, the rest will follow! I know how intimidating a big quilt can be. These fabrics are so pretty and I do hope you get it quilted in time to share it with your daughter! 🙂

July 1, 2015 7:56 amgood luck on finishing your quilt. The larger the quilt the harder they are to do on machine I think but I will tackle one larger than that and I have one that is about 100 x 100 ready to do on my home machine next week.
