I’ve wanted to make one of these “Sweet and Spotty Needle Wallets” by Natalie Lymer since I first saw it on her blog Cinderberry Stitches. I printed out the pattern at that time and put it in the binder where I store my embroidery patterns.
Last April, I got it and several other patterns traced onto fabric so that I would have projects to keep me busy while I was traveling from contract to contract with Dave. Depending on how smooth the roads were, I embroidered as the miles sped by. Other times, I worked on them to pass the time in the hotel room while he was off at work.
The embroidery for my version of the Sweet and Spotty Needle Wallet was one of the first to be finished. And then it sat in the crafting bag that travels with me until this winter.
I haven’t taken a lot of time to sew the past few months as I’m working on writing the final chapters of my book. I’ve promised myself that I won’t buy any new fabric or start any new sewing projects until it’s finished.
But sometimes sewing is just an itch that needs to be scratched, so one day when I was having a particularly difficult time coming up with words, I got out my cutting mat, rotary cutter, quilt rulers and sewing machine and by the end of the day, I had my version of Natalie’s needle wallet completed. (<-affiliate links enclosed).
I did make a slight change to the pattern. Under the appliqué on the front, I added a circle of batting (<-affiliate link) to give it a bit more of a raised look. I love how it turned out but it made doing the appliqué that much more challenging, especially since I’m still learning the various appliqué techniques.
By the time I finished with the appliqué and sewing the wallet together, I was hating those dotted fabrics. But after letting it sit for a few days, the dots have grown on me again and I quite like how it turned out.

March 21, 2014 10:34 amI never could figure out why someone would need a needle case/wallet until I was asked to make pattern as a test. Now I use it all the time and wonder how I ever lived without it. Your needle wallet is beautiful…love it!
