I completed the green teddy baby quilt last Wednesday and was able to mail it off on our way out of town before our marathon trip to Canada. It’s making its way to a little one in Japan via the Quilters Newsletter “Quilts for Japan” Appeal. I received delivery confirmation that it had arrived Monday at Quilters Newsletter, well ahead of the April 30th deadline.
Before I mailed it off, I made sure to take lots of pictures.
As I mentioned in my WIP Wednesday post from two weeks ago, before quilting it I hand-basted the layers using Sharon Schamber’s method. I’ll be writing a more thorough review after I’ve used it to baste a few more projects, but for now I’ll just say that this method of basting works!
I straight-line quilted horizontally and vertically 1/4 inch from the seams on either side the blocks. And then for the border I sewed two lines 1/4 inch apart, then a 1/2 separation and two more lines 1/4 apart.
The quilt got kind of fluffy and shrank a bit after I washed and dried it even though I had pre-washed the flannel. Finished size was approx. 46″ X 58″.

April 21, 2011 10:12 pmIt’s beautiful – and a pieced backing always adds a bit of fun! Someone will be happy to be wrapped in that 🙂

April 21, 2011 11:44 pmThank you, Sandra.
I was so nervous sending it off. This is only the fourth quilt I’ve completed (the first one was made years and years ago.)
